The New Mexico state courts are committed to providing meaningful access to court services for Limited English Proficient (LEP), deaf, and hard-of-hearing individuals.
Every district, magistrate and metropolitan court in New Mexico is covered by a locally-tailored language access plan that addresses in detail the needs and services in each court or judicial district.
These language access plans can be read by clicking on the folders at the bottom of this page.
Spanish versions (as well as Navajo/Diné for selected judicial districts) are accessible via the flags at the top of the left menu.
All language access plans are updated on a regular basis.
Key elements of each plan include:
- Localized needs assessment that includes data on number of LEP persons residing in the counties and using the courthouses. The provisions of each language access plan are anchored in the specific local needs identified.
- Language access procedures and resources inside the courtroom, including circumstances in which the court provides an interpreter and methods for determining interpreter need in advance.
- Language access procedures and resources outside the courtroom, including tools to assist LEP persons in navigating the court and in communicating with staff.
- Provision of judicial and staff training.
- Public notification of language access plan and services, including complaints procedure.
